Adlawan, Mangosong triumph in Kopiko supercross

The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines - Jonjon Adlawan and Bornok Mangosong bucked the muddy tracks and then the heat to post a pair of thrilling victories in the sixth leg of the Kopiko Astig 3-in-One Supercross Series in Tacloban City, Leyte over the weekend.

Adlawan, skipper of Team Kopiko, rallied in the last three laps and got past series leader Glenn Aguilar of KTM Access Plus and Mangosong of Atong Racing to rule the Pro Open division.

The elite field battled mud in the opening day and heat in the finals and steep jumps to the delight of the big crowd of over 30,000 fans at the IPI compound along Maharlika Highway.

Mangosong redeemed himself to top the Pro Lites category, seizing control early then holding off Aguilar and Adlawan for his first series victory.

Team Masimot topped the fun team race, beating Team Kopiko and Team Boboy Fernandez.

An ailing Jacob Orbe kept his composure and topped the Novice Open class while Jaypee Glenn Gaid clinched the Peewee (50 cc) crown.

BJ Pepito also won the Peewee (65 cc) title while McLean Aguilar reasserted his might in the Mini class and Pia Gabriel dominated the women’s category.

Christopher Jules Bantigan bested his rivals to rule the Beginners Open while Ted Conde captured the Intermediate division title.

Over P500,000 in prizes were disputed in 16 categories with Kopiko also handing out trophies and gift packs to the top finishers in various divisions.

Meanwhile, the seventh leg of the Kopiko Astig 3-in-One Supercross Series will be held in Cagayan de Oro City on July 27-28.
