GMA News TV airs ‘Laban’ boxing series

MANILA, Philippines - GMA News TV will feature “Bakbakan sa Japan” tomorrow as it resumes its telecast of the “Laban ng Lahi,” a series of boxing specials on the Filipino fighters’ exploits around the world.

Michael Farenas takes on Japan’s Takashi Uchiyama for the WBA world super featherweight title, Sonny Boy Jaro battles Thailand’s Pongsaklek Wonjongkam for the WBC flyweight crown, while Sonny Boy Jaro slugs it out with Japan’s Toshiyuki Igarashi for the WBC flyweight diadem in the featured fights aired starting at 1 p.m.

On Thursday, the Filipino fighters will take on renowned boxers from Mexico with Federico Catubay clashing with Rodrigo Guerrero for the IBF super flyweight title eliminator, and Johnriel Casimero going up against Ramon Garcia Hirales for the interim WBO light flyweight crown.

Friday’s bout will feature the Philippines’ Ciso Morales against Mexico’s Miguel Angel Gonzales and Marvin Sonsona squaring off with Mexican Alejandro Hernandez for the WBO super flyweight plum.

Brian Villoria kicked off the boxing series last Monday with action-packed fights against Mexico’s Giovani Segura, Omar Niño Romero and Hernan Tyson Marquez.

Yesterday’s special, meanwhile, showed Denver Cuello securing the international minimumweight titles against Mexico’s Carlos Perez, Thailand’s Samat Chaiyong, and Indonesia’s Muhammad Rachman.
