San Andres solidifies motocross status

Kenneth San Andres soars to victory in the premier Pro Open category of the POC-PSC Philippine National Games for Motocross at the Speedworld MX Circuit, SM Bicutan.

MANILA, Philippines - Multi-titled rider Kenneth San Andres re-staked his claim as the country’s No. 1 rider when he ruled both the premier events of the POC-PSC National Games for Motocross at the Speedworld MX Circuit in SM Bicutan, Parañaque City recently.

San Andres, a many-time motocross awardee of the Philippine Sportswriters Association, dominated the Pro Open (MX1) and Pro 125 (MX2) of motocross event held under the auspices of the National Motorcycle Sports and Safety Association (Namssa).

The Valenzuela native, backed by Kawasaki Philippines, Oakley, Fox, GoPro, Leatt, Foilacar Manila, Kia Global, R33 Car Exchange, P. Boys, HKC Helmet, Polisport, Bridgestone Tires, JBS Motorcycle Parts, Motul Phils. and  GCG Pipes, quashed the challenge of Ral Ramento (runner-up) and veteran Jolet Jao (third place) in the Pro Open which he won virtually by a mile.

It was the same dominant show in the Pro 125, where Ramento and Jao placed second and third, respectively.

“I guess I just knew the circuit like the palm of my hand,” said San Andres, the reigning Namssa Philippine National Motocross Rider of the Year. “It’s where I train most of the time, so I am very familiar with the circuit.”

San Andres also finished third runner-up in the FIM Asia Motocross Supercross Championship in Kuala Terengganu, Malaysia, where his father/trainer Junjun San Andres emerged second runner-up in the Veterans’ division.

“The ultimate dream is of course win the Asian title in the future,” said the 21-year-old San Andres, who nearly snagged the regional plum last year when he placed runner-up to Thailand veteran Arnon Theplib. “But I’m not in a hurry, I know my time will come.”

â€œThe presence of FIM Asia’s headquarters in the Philippines gives us a better reason to prove ourselves in the different continental championships being disputed by motorcycle athletes from our union’s 26-country member national motorcycling federations,” said concurrent FIM Asia and Namssa president Macky Carapiet.
