PSL holds 50-m pool, open water swim in Kalibo, Boracay
MANILA, Philippines - For the first time, the Philippine Swimming League held a monthly competition featuring both a 50-meter pool and open water swimming competition when it staged the PSL 43rd leg, dubbed Gov. Carlito Marquez Cup, in Kalibo Aklan.
The first competition was held in a 50-m pool yesterday at the Aklan Sports Complex while the open water swim phase will take age-group swimmers today to the blue waters of Boracay – at the Club Parao shoreline of the world-famous beach paradise.
“Amazingly, swimmers competed with all their prowess and excitement. For the first time a pool event is combined with open water swim,†said PSL president Susan Papa.
“We will do this again,†said host organizer Darren Evangelista of the competition which drew the full support of Aklan Gov. Marquez.
The competition was participated in by teams from Manila, Caloocan, Parañaque, Quezon City, Antipolo, Laguna, Davao, Aklan and Capiz.
Trophies will be awarded to the best swimmers in each age category for boys and girls aged six years old to 18 and over.
In the initial results, the Caloocan R3 Aquaspeed Swim Team, coached by Richard Ryan Robles, won the team award. The most outstanding swimmers were Michael Gabriel Lozada and Michaela Jasmine Mojdeh (6 years), Jaz Villanueva, Raine Louise Yumang and Vaughn Andre Aquino (8), Charles Emmanuel Ticbaen (9), Sam Andrei Doragos (10), Sean Terence Zamora and Portia Kate Doragos (12), Julianne Khryztelle Torres and John Carlo Doragos (14), PatriciaAlexis Molino and Emanuel Joshua Lorbes (15) and Camyl Evangelista (18 and over).
The 44th PSL regional competition will be held June 2 in Legazpi with the Ibalong Magayon Aquagliders Swim Club as host. A week later, the Fleet Marines Swim Club will host the NCR swim meet on June 8.
