Adamson escapes UST in five sets in battle for 3rd opener

Aldo Avinante - The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines – Adamson University relied on their resilient effort to snatch a come-from-behind 23-25, 25-23, 19-25, 25-23 15-12 victory against the University of Santo Tomas to get the series opener in the best-of-three battle for third in the First Conference Shakey’s V-League Season 10 at the Mall of Asia Arena.

Sheila Pineda provided a booming kill to end the final set preceded by two heartbreaking errors from UST escaping with the win after being down 1-2 in the first three sets.

“Galing kami sa napakahirap na laban namin sa NU nung semis so ginawa namin yun as motivation na maglaro kahit talo kami,” said the 21-year old Pineda.

"Instead of masiraan kami ng loob, gagamitin namin yung paghihirap namin sa semis dito para sa battle for third," she added.

UST had the chance to end the game in the fourth set after taking a 23-20 lead but lost to the menacing pressure of the Adamson Lady Falcons attack.

Adamson took advantage of three straight errors while Faye Guevara and Pau Soriano scored the final two points with a block and a service ace to send the game in to the fifth and final set.

Angela Benting and Pineda led the Adamson onslaught scoring 23 points each including 21 and 18 hits respectively for the San Marcelino-based squad.
