MANILA, Philippines – With the title already out of their sight, Kaya played loose in blanking the Phil. Army, 4-0, Tuesday night in the United Football League action at the Emperador Stadium in McKinley Hill.
Kaya banked on the resurgence of former Azkals Anton del Rosario and Nate Burkey to pull off the win.
Del Rosario scored for the second straight match, this time, firing a brace while Burkey assisted in three of Kaya’s goals to boost their confidence despite getting blown out of the title picture with only three matches left in their season.
Del Rosario bookended the match with a goal in the 10th minute and the last one in the 61st minute to hike his season total to six goals.
Janrick Soriano, who was thrust into the starting lineup after being the club’s super sub in the early part of the season, added one in the 13th minute while young gun OJ Porteria scored four minutes past the halftime mark.
The win pushed Kaya back to fourth spot with 24 points but could only total a maximum of 33 points should they sweep their remaining three matches.
The Phil. Army are now in danger of relegation to the second division with only four points to show so far on just one win, one draw against 12 losses.
