MANILA, Philippines - Alabang captured all but one of the four crowns disputed as it dominated the Greenfield Baseball and Softball Invitational tournament at the Greenfield City in Sta. Rosa, Laguna recently.
The Alabang clouters topped the boys’ 10- and 14-and-under divisions in baseball while bagging the girls’ softball crown in the event presented by Greenfield Development Corp. and hosted by Greenfield City.
The Philippine Habagat, however, foiled Alabang’s sweep bid by winning the 12-and-under boys’ baseball diadem.
Alabang’s Peter Nonaillada copped the best pitcher honors in the 10-and-under class to lead the individual winners, who included Kenneth de los Santos of Tanauan (12-and-under) and Tai Yoan of Phl Habagat, while Santino Laurel of Alabang, Basil Taylo of Phl Habagat, and Geof Magsadia, also of Alabang (12-and-under) emerged the homerun kings.
Laurel also won the best hitter plum in the 10-and-under along with Taylo (12-and-under), and Vince Flores of Phl Habagat (14-and-under), all in boys’ baseball competitions.
Named MVPs were Nonaillada (10-and-under), Enzo Montemayor (12-and-under), and Magsadia (14-and-under) while Tanauan finished second in both the 10-and-under and 12-and-under and Phl Habagat placed second in the 14-and-under class.
Bianca Hernandez of Makati led the individual awardees in girls’ softball, winning the best pitcher award along with Sam Amores of De La Salle-Zobel (home run queen), Angelu Gabriel, also of Makati (best hitter), and Marivic Muñoz as MVP. Makati placed second to Alabang while Caloocan finished third.
