Junior Masters match play final gets going tomorrow

MANILA, Philippines - Sixty-four survivors of a nationwide elimination series return for the match play finals of the inaugural Philippine Golf Foundation Junior Masters Series starting tomorrow at the well-manicured Alabang Country Club course.

They will be vying for the title at stake in four age-groups – Class A for 15-17 years, Class B for 13-14, Class C for 11-12 and Class D for 9-10 – for boys and girls with entries coming from as far south as Del Monte in Bukidnon and as far north as Baguio.

The field in the tourney serving as the 10th stop of the ICTSI-JGFP Summer Circuit features family entries like the Magcalayos of Luzon, the Gaos of the Visayas and the Miñozas of Mindanao.

“We’ve not had a match play event for so long and everyone’s excited. We expect a lot of interesting matches,” said Luigi Tabuena, president of the Junior Golf Foundation of the Philippines, noting that the Mindanao and Cebu entries are arriving in full force.

He added that the  PGF is very happy with the way the kids have supported the competition.

Alabang, through its board of directors headed by club president Archie Lacson, has allowed practice rounds for the entries today.
