Squires blast Red Cubs, near semis
MANILA, Philippines - Letran waylaid San Beda-B, 76-58, to keep its win run going in junior play in the 19th Fr. Martin Summer Cup basketball tournament at the Arellano U gym in Legarda, Manila recently.
Incoming high school seniors Ivan Villanueva and Yves Sazon combined for 34 points as the Squires dominated the Red Cubs to post their fifth straight win and move within two wins from gaining the top semifinal berth in Group B.
La Salle-Zobel stays behind Letran with a 4-0 card.
The six-foot-two Villanueva shot seven points in the first period while Miguel Villasis, who had 12 points, hit three triples in the second quarter as Letran posted a 36-28 lead.
Earlier, the St. Clare Saints (1-4) won over the Fatima University Phoenix (2-3), 70-46, in an early morning senior division contest.
