MANILA, Philippines - The Rain or Shine Elasto Painters will now be under a coaching congressman from Pampanga as they return to play in the PBA Governors Cup.
That’s the case with coach Yeng Guiao winning his bid for a congressional seat in the first district of Pampanga.
Guiao will carry the tag coaching congressman having no intention of leaving his job as Rain or Shine coach even as he’ll soon be busy crafting laws and looking after his constituents.
“Tanggap naman nila na coach ako and I think I can well manage my time working as coach and doing my job in Congress,†said Guiao, who for a long time served as Pampanga vice governor before making his bid at the legislative post.
The Rain or Shine management is fully behind Guiao in his political endeavor and all his advocacies.
In fact, the Asian Coating Inc. signed Guiao to a three-year contract-extension deal before the elections.
There were other winners and losers from the PBA circle in the recent elections.
Air21 coach Franz Pumaren, his assistant coach Jack Santiago and PBA TV panelist Jason Webb clinched board seats in Quezon City, Navotas and Parañaque, respectively.
Former San Miguel and Swift player Mar Morelos is returning as councilor in Valenzuela.
Meanwhile, former player and referee Tito Varela failed in his bid to regain vice mayoral post in Caloocan so did former player and actor Joey Marquez for Congress in Parañaque.
Easily the biggest winner among PBA personalities, Guiao said he has got a number of advocacies he’ll try to push with necessary legislation.
A true-blue sportsman, Guiao has his plans for Philippine sports, including the creation of a national stadium inside Clark, which, he believes would be a big boost to the country’s sports program.
He said Clark, with its sprawling land area and proximity to Manila, is the most ideal place for a world-class stadium that can host international events and at the same time serve as a training facility for national athletes.
