Bombers, Altas gain Martin semis

MANILA, Philippines - Jose Rizal U and Perpetual Help trounced their respective rivals in seniors division while San Beda-A sustained its form in junior play to boost their semifinal bids in the 19th Fr. Martin Summer Cup basketball tournament at the San Beda gym last Sunday.

The Heavy Bombers drew double-digit scores from Ervin Medrano and two others as they blasted the Emilio Aguinaldo College Generals, 111-59, at San Beda gym.

Juneric Baloria, Harold Arboleda and Chris Elopre, meanwhile, took charge in the fourth quarter as the Altas outplayed the Letran Knights, 72-65, at the Arellano University gym last Thursday.

Baloria unloaded 23 points, while Arboleda and Elopre made 18 and 13 points, respectively, for the Altas, who improved their win-loss record to 3-2 in Group A.

In the junior division, Adven Jess Diputado and four others carried the Red Cubs to a 78-44 rout of the Perpetual Help Altalettes.

Diputado tallied 10 points, while Pierre Jacob Ancheta, Mark Anthony Framil, Evan Jacob Furaque and Javee Mocon scored nine markers apiece for the Red Cubs, who stretched their win run to six in Group A.

Simon de la Cruz shot 18 points as the Jesus Is Lord beat University of the East, 76-72, while Emilio Aguinaldo College stopped Ateneo-White, 92-48, in the other junior matches.

In women’s play, Lupin Gesalan had 17 points as Far Eastern University edged La Salle, 47-44, to improve to 2-1.
