MANILA, Philippines - Vergel Ramos and Joseph Anida hurdled their respective rivals to lead the winners in the boys’ 14-and-under class at the start of the Toby’s-Prince Tennis Festival at the Rizal Memorial Tennis Center yesterday.
Vergel bounced back to beat Matthew Varona, 6-4,6-4, while Joseph dominated Dale Israel, 6-1, 6-2.
In other results, Angel Bryan Reyes trounced Gab Yuson, 6-0, 6-1; Jeremiah Macias booted out Renz Sinad, 6-4, 6-2; Pancho Santos turned back Tomas Santos, 4-6, 6-2, 10-6; and Kyles Joseph Reyes waylaid Bryan Paolo Eusebio, 6-0, 6-0.
Nio Tria slammed Jazz Vilalon, 6-2, 6-0; Lorenzo Jose Manuel Cruz trounced Ramon Wilfred Bentillo, 6-1, 6-3; Jan Andrei Torres defeated Lawrence Sarmiento, 6-3, 6-4; France Jason Viloria eased out Joshua Perez Cabanog, 6-2, 6-4; and John Mervin Estrellado blasted Hubert Gallego, 6-1, 6-4.
In the non-ranking boys’ 16-under division, Lucas Mikhail Santiago defeated Bryan Paolo Eusebio, 8-2; Willy Sabas downed Aul Justine Lavandero, 8-5; Josephus Canas ousted Kenta Yagi, 8-1; and Mark Chapa bested Lee Tee Gyu, 8-2.
In the girls’ non-ranked 16-under, Alicia Imperial overwhelmed Ghyleen Bartolome, 8-3; Marie Antonette Diaz walloped Sidelvize Santos, 8-2; and Michael Jay Fuentes routed John Rovich Gapuz, 8-1, in the event presented by Toby’s Sports and Prince, and in cooperation with the Philippine Tennis Association), Equipe, Adidas, Lonsdale, Kangaroos and urban Athletics.
