Brightstar FC, Amigas rule street football

MANILA, Philippines - Brightstar F.C. and Las Amigas, composed of the women’s national futsal team, posted contrasting victories in the one-day 3-on-3 Mitre Street Football Challenge held at the Bonifacio Global City last weekend.

In the men’s side, Brightstar F.C. and the PSG U-16 team were tied after the regulation and the game was decided on penalty kicks with the trio of Johnson Jangobah, Sangare Mamadou, and Tchemen Stopyra booting in a goal each to nip PSG U-16, 3 to 2, with Christian Lapaz and Ian Mirinda scoring on their tries for the men’s Open division runner-up team.

Third place went to Pasig United which beat Leylam U-16, courtesy of a lone penalty kick to win 1-0, in the tournament  held in partnership with Toby’s Sports, Bonifacio Global City, and the Philippine Futsal Association. 

The women’s  side saw the Las    Amigas blanking the Futsalistas, 4-0, with team captain Marigen Ariel contributing two goals while Rizielyn Torres and playing coach Angelita Servilon booting in a goal each. 

In the freestyle competition, winner was Dennis Balbin who dazzled the crowd with his repertoire of ball control moves.

The tournament was backed by Mitre, the premiere British football brand that launched its full range football line through the competition which attracted 10 men’s teams and three women’s teams.

“ We are committed to promoting street football in the country , in Asia, street football is already popular in Indonesia and Thailand while in Europe and South America, a lot of regular football players started their football careers playing in the streets. We want to show that football is not a sports for  the elite only and can be played easilly with just a football and a street to play at, “ said Toby’s Sports CEO Toby Claudio whose company is the exclusive distributor of Mitre in the Philippines.
