MANILA, Philippines – Team Socceroo bucked a sloppy start before overpowering Phl Navy FC, 6-2, to extend its spectacular run to 10 wins and fortify its stranglehold of the top spot of the Second Division of the United Football League at the McKinley Hill in Taguig City Sunday night.
After Koren Jeon Shin Seok opened up the scoring with a goal right on the third minute, Socceroo went sluggish as Navy's Richard Leyble racked up a double, one on the 28th minute and another on the 33rd, to give the former a 2-1 lead at halftime.
But the Socceroo booters tightened up the defensive screws while going on attack mode as they unleashed five unanswered goals in the second half, two each by Jeon and Lee Jeong Woo and one from Lee Hyeon Seung.
Jeon eventually ended up with a hat-trick.
The win, its 10th in row, thus kept Socceroo atop the heap with 30 match points and ahead by a mile over the pursuing troika of Agila FC, Union Internacional Manila and Forza FC with 21, 18 and 17 points, respectively.
The Navymen remained stuck at No. 8 with nine points on two wins and three draws against six defeats.
In the other match of the day, Cimarron FC slammed Laos FC, 4-1, to climb to No. 5 with 13 points on four triumphs and a standoff against four setbacks.
Bismark Fimpong led everyone with a brace that came on the 31st and 65th minutes while Cimarron's other goal-scorers were Eric Yosse and Severino Floresto V, who came through on the seventh and 30th.
Laos, which got its lone goal from Rolly Lear on the 47th, got stranded at No. 7 with 11 points on three wins and two deadlocks against five losses.
