CEBU, Philippines – Wei Wei, Weiyu and Weifang Gao used their experience competing in the Manila events to complete a family sweep of their respective divisions in the Visayas leg of the Philippine Golf Foundation Junior Masters Series at the Cebu Country Club course here.
Wei Wei sizzled with an even-par 72 for a runaway 15-stroke win in boys Class B, Weiyu held off Russel Bautista’s rally to post a three-shot victory in boys Class C and Weifang dominated the girls Class D as they towed 13 other qualifiers into next month’s match play national finals.
Other winners were Harvey Sytiongsa in boys Class A, Ericka Lim in girls Class A, Loise Kaye Go in girls Class B, Junia Gabasa in girls Class C and Kevin Tae Wan in girls Class D.
Together with second finishers Julius Pierre Neri, Gabrielle Lim, Peter Tyler Po, Keilla Choi, Angela Magana, Franco Rivera and Jordan Quano, they will represent the Visayas in the finals on May 21-24 at the Alabang Country Club.
“Early in the series, we can really see that there are juniors out there who have the game just waiting for the proper exposure. The PGF support is really a shot in the arm for junior golf,†said Junior Golf Foundation of the Philippines president Luigi Tabuena.
Meanwhile, the series, the continuation of the grand 15-tournament schedule of ICTSI summer circuit, goes to Splendido Taal next for the Southern Luzon leg on May 7-8 and then winds up at Del Monte for the Mindanao leg on May 9-10.
Despite being based in Cebu, the Gaos are active campaigners in most of the JGFP events played in Manila.
