Loyola Sparks-A rules 7-a-side tiff

MANILA, Philippines - Loyola Meralco Sparks FC Team A dominated its rivals to top the 12-years-and-under division of the first Tribeca Football Festival at the 7-a-side Football Field of the Tribeca Private Residences recently.

Twenty-four teams featuring some 500 players from various schools and clubs took part in the event organized by leisure developer Landco in partnership with Chelsea FC Soccer School Philippines, the school operated by the Philippine Azkals mainstays Phil and James Younghusband, and joint venture partner, ATR KimEng Land, Inc.

The other top finishers were (12-and under) Schwarz FC, first place; LMS FC Team B; (10-and under) LMS-B, champion; LMS-A, first place; LMS-B, second place; (8-and under) Corinthian FC, champion; RAYA FC, first place; CFCSSPH, second place; (6-and under) CFC, champion; MUFC, first place; RAYA FC, second place.

Landco vice president for sales Albert Villareal said  the success of the event has encouraged them to consider holding more football meets.

“When we first conceived of this event, we wanted to see how much support it would get. It has been very successful. So many people became interested and participated in the games. With this development, we are surely considering holding more events like this,” said Villareal.

The Younghusbands, together with officials of Landco Pacific Corporation, the developer behind Tribeca Private Residences, graced the awards rites.

“Phil and James are very passionate about teaching football to Filipino kids. They want to sow the seeds, so to speak, in creating the next generation of top Filipino football players.
