Global blanks Archers, grabs solo second place

Joey Villar - The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines – Global FC smothered a listless Green Archers United-Globe FC side, 4-0, to jump back to solo second place in the First Division of the United Football League at the McKinley Hill in Taguig City Thursday night.

Izzo El Habib (46th minute), Jeffrey Christiaens (58th), Denis Wolf (71st) and Carly de Murga (91st) accounted for Global's goals in overtaking the idle Loyola Meralco Sparks at No. 2 with 31 match points on 10 wins and a draw against a loss.

Only Stallion FC is better as it continued to lead the way with 33 points on 11 victories against a defeat while Loyola slid to No. 3 with 29 points on nine triumphs and two standoffs against one setback.

The Archers were left stranded at No. 8 with only eight points to show after absorbing their eighth defeat against two wins and the same number of deadlocks.

Nomads FC leaned on Fidelis Nnabuife's 47th minute rocket as it eked out a shock 1-1 draw with Kaya FC.

Kaya, bankrolled by LBC, took the early goal when Fil-Am Nate Burkey drilled in a goal right on the eighth minute, an advantage it appeared to hold for a while.

But Nnabuife struck like a lightning on the 47th that turned out to be the equalizer, eventually leading Nomads to escape with an upset draw.

The draw sent Nomads from a share of No. 6 with PSG FC to solo hold of it with 12 points on three wins and the same number of draws against six losses.

The Kaya booters, for their part, gained just a point to improve to 18 points after it posted their sixth draw this season to add to four victories against two setbacks.
