Younghusband brothers spark Loyola's win over Air Force
MANILA, Philippines -- The Loyola Meralco Sparks leaned on the Younghusband brothers to snap Phil. Air Force's two-game winning streak with a hard earned 2-0 victory on Tuesday night in the United Football League action at the Emperador Stadium in McKinley Hill.
Phil and James teamed up for the two goals that brought the Sparks back on the second spot in the league table with their ninth win against two draws and a loss for 29 points.
The Sparks were having trouble opening up the air-tight defense of the Airmen until Phil found a streakig James in the 17th minute for a breakaway goal.
It was the separation that Loyola needed to grab the momentum.
The Airmen kept the Sparks from pulling away with the superb goalkeeping of Kenneth Dolloso. But as great as their defense was, Air Force failed to come up with the equalizer and worst, yield a penalty kick to Phil, who calmly sank it for a 2-nil lead in the 80th minute.
Frustrations crept into the Airmen's heads as some of them were caught throwing cheap shots against Loyola players. When cooler heads prevailed, Anton Albor and an Air Force official were sent off with red cards while Loyola's Korean import Jang Joo Wong was hit with a yellow card.
The loss saw the end of Air Force's resurgence falling to its 10th loss in 12 matches to remain at ninth spot.
