PGF Junior Masters elims kick off at JH

MANILA, Philippines - The Philippine Golf Foundation Junior Masters Series kicks off today at the Camp John Hay Golf Club in Baguio City with the first of four 36-hole eliminations expected to produce a new breed of talents who could be tapped to become members of the Jungolf pool.

A field of 55 players has been assembled for the Northern Luzon leg which will put on the spotlight the players actively involved in junior golf movement not just in Baguio but other outlying areas like La Union and Central Luzon as they compete against the visiting bets from Metro Manila.

They will vie for two slots each in the girls and boys divisions of Class A (15-17 years), Class B (13-14), Class C (11-12) and Class D (9-10) for the national finals on May 21-24 at the Alabang Country Club.

Cebu Country Club will host the Visayas leg on May 2-3, Splendido Taal in Nasugbu, Batangas will be the venue of the Southern Luzon Leg on May 7-8 and the Mindanao leg will be played in Del Monte in Bukidnon on May 9-10.

Regional qualifiers from Visayas and Mindanao will be provided with free airfare by the organizing Junior Golf Foundation of the Philippines and the sponsoring Philippine Golf Foundation.

The PGF Junior Masters Series, serving as the fifth leg of the Junior Golf Foundation of the Philippines Summer Circuit, is part of the continuing grassroots development program being undertaken by the JGFP in collaboration with its growing support base that now includes the PGF.

JGFP president Luigi Tabuena and PGF chairman Cesar Buenaventura recently signed the agreement for a joint undertaking in promoting junior golf in as many locations in the country.

The new series is actually a revival of a major event in the JGFP calendar long ago where the top performer was even sent to the international finals held in Buffalo, New York.
