MANILA, Philippines - Marikina takes its fight against flooding, literally, one step at a time with the upcoming Del Run (Save the Marikina Watershed) on April 28, 5 a.m., at the Marikina Sports Park.
Del Run is a fun run open to all runners with categories 5K, 10K and 21K.
Marikina Mayor Del De Guzman said the project, which is on its second year, aims to raise funds to restore the 27,000-hectare Marikina Watershed. At its current state, there are not enough trees to prevent soil erosion which caused the Marikina River to become shallow and cause flooding in the city.
De Guzman is inviting runners to vie in fun run to help raise more funds so more can be done in the fight against flooding.
Registration fee is P400 for the 5K and 10K categories, and P500 for the 21k.
