Archers spoil Kaya's 'Greatwich' shot

Alder Almo - The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines -- Green Archers United Globe denied Kaya a victory with a late goal to force a 3-3 draw Tuesday night in the United Football League action at the Emperador Stadium in McKinley Hill.

Azkal Chris Greatwich played his best game in the league but was not enough to give Kaya the full three points to move closer to the top three.

Greatwich completed a brace with what could be this season's top highlight reel -- a bicycle kick -- in the 89th minute to give Kaya a 3-2 advantage. Kaya's celebration, however, was only short-lived as the Green Archers battled back to force the draw on Agbayomi Olowoyeye's goal from a loose ball play two minutes after.

The draw was Kaya's fifth this season but was enough to give them the solo fourth spot with 17 points after Pachanga-Diliman slipped against Loyola to get stuck with 16 points. Antonio Ugarte gave Kaya the opening lead with a rocket from the top of the box in the ninth minute but the Archers came back with successive goals from Jovanie Simpron (12th minute) and Chieffy Caligdong (21st minute) to turn the tables on Kaya at the break.

Greatwhich put his stamp in the second half with his first goal in the 69th minute putting the match back to scratch before converting the best goal of the season 20 minutes later that move Kaya up by one for the second time.

Olowoyeye's late goal gave the Archers their eight point of the season but still remained at the eight spot.
