Faldo Series Asia qualifier fires off at Eagle Ridge
MANILA, Philippines - The country’s best juniors aged 12 to 21 years see action in the new season of the Faldo Series Asia with the sixth Philippine qualifier scheduled at one of the four championship courses Nick Faldo himself designed at the sprawling Eagle Ridge Golf and Country Club starting today.
Marvi Monsalve, who clinched her first international crown after ruling the girls Under-21 division of the grand finals at the Mission Hills Golf Club course in Shenzhen, China last March, leads the 80 participants of the tourney serving as the fourth leg of the ICTSI-JGFP Summer Circuit.
The 54-hole event, one of the 19 tournaments in 15 countries scheduled over the next 12 months which will choose the country’s bets to the Asia Grand Final at Missions Hills in March 2014, is also sponsored by the Pancake House Group, Philippine Golf Foundation, Sizzlin’ Pepper, Teriyaki Boy, Golf Depot and Inquirer Golf.
The field also featuring last week’s winners of the Junior World qualifying Princess Superal, Pauline del Rosario, Jolo Magcalayo and Sofia Chabon, will be vying for the boys and girls Under-21, boys Under-18 and boys and girls Under-16 slots.
“Together with our recently-announced Europe schedule, we are excited to bring opportunity to more than 7,000 young golfers in 30 countries worldwide this year and for that we thank our partners, including The R&A, ISPS and Mission Hills,†said Faldo in a statement sent to qualifying sites worldwide.
Supported by The R&A, ISPS and Mission Hills, the 2013/2014 Asia schedule also features three more tournaments in mainland China, two in India and others in Chinese Taipei, Cambodia, Vietnam, Hong Kong, Malaysia, Nepal, Singapore, Brunei, Japan, Pakistan, Indonesia and Thailand.
