Phl drivers out to boost bid in dragfest

MANILA, Philippines - The Petronas Philippine Drag Racing Championship Northern Series resumes tomorrow for the third and penultimate leg with the chief contenders all primed up for a spirited battle at the Clark International Speedway in Pampanga.

Defending champion Jonathan Tiu of JCT-Blanche Racing, H3 Autoworks top bets Teofilo Edwin Cayco and Danes Sarmiento, Arvin Millet of TEMZ, and former champion Martin Manalo of RSL Motorsports go all-out in their make-or-break bid for the crown in the event sanctioned by the Automobile Association Philippines (AAP) and sponsored by Petronas, Yokohama, GT Radials, M&H Tires and media partner Racing Beat at Wave 89.1.

Tiu needs a victory to back up his M&H Super Pro triumph in the kickoff race and boost his chances for an eighth national drag racing crown.

Cayco wheeled back into contention by upstaging Tiu to win the Quick 8 crown in the kickoff leg while Sarmiento also ruled the Quick 8 class in the second leg of the Northern Series in  9.0148 seconds.

But Manalo and Millet are also tipped to contend for the crown following their crucial wins in the M&H Pro class.

Manalo topped the M&H Pro second leg of the Northern Series while Millet is coming off a victory in the expert class and is raring to pocket his first overall drag racing plum.

Another pro class victory will firm up Millet’s hold of the overall solo leadership.
