V-League: Lady Chiefs spoil Altas debut
MANILA, Philippines – The Arellano Lady Chiefs staved off a furious rally from NCAA champions Perpetual Help Lady Altas hacking out a 25-18, 25-19, 25-27, 26-24 victory in Group B of the Shakey’s V-League Season 10 First Conference at The Arena in San Juan today.
Guest players Nerissa Bautista and Mary Jean Balse recorded 19 points each combining for 32 kills while Elaine Sagun added 13 points of her own for the Legarda-based squad.
“I always tell my players to give out full effort in every game and the players who want the game more and have the bigger heart always come on on top†said AU coach Roberto Javier.
Perpetual, down 20-23 in the final set, managed to give the Lady Chiefs a good scare rallying to tie the game 24-all. Balse scored on a kill while Honey Tubino committed an error in the final play paving the way for the victory of the Chiefs.
Guest players Joy Cases led the Altas with 14 points including 9 hits while April Sartin and Tubino contributed 12 points apiece.
Arellano improved their 2-1 while Perpetual lost their debut in the conference sporting a winless 0-1 slate.
