Ong, partner top Southwoods Invit’l golfest

MANILA, Philippines - Marie Claire Ong and Jitakarn Lamsam Chandraviroj combined for 164 points as they bested a big field to capture the overall low net crown in the 2013 Southwoods Invitational presented by MegaFiber at the Legends and Masters courses in Carmona, Cavite last week.

Veteran youth campaigners Marvi Monsalve and Daniella Uy played true to form and pooled 147 to annex the overall low gross championship in the 36-hole, four-day tournament which used the Stableford scoring format.

Perennial club champions Butch Brodett and Philip Brodett shot 160 points to beat Ferdie Agustin and Justin Limjap, who had a 152, and cop the Division I championship in the posh club’s premier member-club tournament put up by Southwoods chairman Robert John Sobrepeña and his board of directors in 2000.

Sharing the spotlight were Boysie Yñiguez and Ramon Villareal, who won a brand new Mitsubishi Lancer GLX MT and a Royal Caribbean Cruise, respectively, in the raffle draw.

Mario Badillo and Roland Garcia carded a 164 to nip Robert Banatin and John Elepano by two points for the Division II crown while the Lito Ayson-Bianca Pagdangangan tandem also turned in a 164 to beat Jacinto Puno and Chito Lauretta (157) for the Division III plum in the event backed by hole in one sponsors Mitsubishi Motors Phils. Corp./Diamond Motors Corp., Royal Caribbean/Baron Travel, Mit Air Sales Center, Pacsports, Sports Specialist and Turf Company.

Felix Cortez and Ronald Dizon shot a 155 to edge Jojo Lee and Jimmy Dy by one and clinch the Division IV title while Jayson Yu and Joseph Dy ruled the sponsors/guest division with a 149, beating Tony Olives and Abe Avena’s 134.
