MANILA, Philippines - The Automobile Association of the Philippines (AAP), the local governing body for motorsports, recently cited Nascar driver Carlos Anton for his remarkable feat in winning his sixth Driver of the Year award for Hillclimb racing in the annual AAP Awards Night at the Manila International Auto Show recently.
Anton, using the Mark Young-Hornitex prepared CRX, has dominated Hillclimb racing in the country the past six years, winning all but one of the 28 races he has joined in. He also won the 2012 Circuit Showdown title and the 2012 Champion of Champions plum last December.
“The past year has been one of the best in my career, we won 15 of the 16 races we joined in hillclimb and circuit showdown. I can’t ask for more from the Mark Young-Castrol team,†said Anton, priming up for the Nascar Race Ex World Circuit set at the Charlotte Motor Speedway in May. The Philippines along with 12 other nations will be competing in the historic race.
“We will be hitting speeds of over 330kph around the oval so it will be a whole new experience for me and my teammates. It’s a dream come true and I’m so thankful to be given the opportunity by the Manozca Foundation to represent the Philippines,†said Anton.
Joining him in the US is mentor and international racing champion Mike Potenciano, four-time Karter of the Year Stefano Marcelo, Indy lights protégé Michelle Bumgarner, Formula BMW champion Gaby de la Merced and drifting superstar Pia Boren.
