GMA News TV airs Shakey’s V-League

The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines - GMA News TV Channel 11 will telecast the Shakey’s V-League games starting Monday giving volleyball fans and enthusiasts the chance to watch top-notch women’s volley games on free TV.

GMA Network Inc. and officials of the organizing Sports Vision inked the deal last Wednesday, three days after the country’s premier women’s volley league kicked off its milestone 10th season.

“It’s one sport where the Philippines can excel,” said GMA president and COO Gilberto Duavit after the contract-signing.

A primer on the Shakey’s V-League will be aired tomorrow starting at 9 a.m. on Ch 11-GMA News TV station.

Regular telecasts of the country’s premier women’s volley league will be aired Mondays to Saturdays starting at 1 p.m. after the noontime newscaster Balitanghali.

Games can also be viewed on live streaming on www.v-league.ph.

“We’re very grateful to the management of GMA-7 for coming into a partnership with us,” said Sports Vision president Ricky Palou. “In the past we have been in partnership with GMA International. Now we’re happy they’re showing it on a local television network.”

Ten teams, led by defending back-to-back champion Ateneo, are vying for Season 10 First Conference crown with Sports Vision lining up a first-ever All-Star Weekend where star players who have graced the league’s court through the years will get to play the league’s current and upcoming stars.

Other teams seeing action in the tournament, backed by Mikasa and Accel, are University of Santo Tomas, San Sebastian, Letran, La Salle-Dasmariñas, Perpetual Help, National University, Adamson, Arellano and University of San Carlos-Cebu.
