MANILA, Philippines – The 2013 FilOil Flying V Premier Cup Tournament, the country’s premier college preseason tuneup competition, is set to roll out its fresh season on April 13 at the FilOil Flying V Arena in San Juan.
Now on its seventh year, the tournament – which has served as a tune-up for NCAA and UAAP member schools – will now open its doors to Visayan power, Southwestern University, the current CESAFI (Cebu Schools Athletic Foundation, Inc.) champions.
The squads will join past FilOil Flying V Premier Cup winners Ateneo, DLSU and San Beda. Out of the 10 member schools of the NCAA, nine are slated to participate while the UAAP side is coming in with full force.
The Master Game Face All-Star basketball Challenge, set on June 8, was also announced during today’s press conference at the URBN Bar and Kitchen at The Fort.
Master Facial Wash brand manager Jonathan Pua said the best players from the 18 participating schools will be chosen among the 180 players via fan voting starting on April 17.
To spice things up, the All-Star participants will team up with Master endorsers Chris Tiu, who hails from Ateneo, and Borgie Hermida, San Beda’s captain a few years back. The two will be the coaches of their respective teams.
Team Chris will be bannered by Ateneo, Adamson, Letran, DLSU, Lyceum Of the Philippines University, San Sebastian, Southwestern University, University of the East and University of Santo Tomas. Team Borgie on the other hand will be represented by Arellano, College of Saint Benilde, EAC, FEU, JRU, NU, University of Perpetual Help-Dalta System, San Beda, and University of the Philippines.
“I’m very excited about it,†Tiu said. “I can’t wait to get that college spirit back.â€
Fans will vote the starters for each team while Hermida and Tiu will select the 13 reserves from the remaining player pool. The Masters Game Face All Star rosters will be announced on May 25.
As a bonus, fans who correctly vote the starting lineup will win two ringside tickets for the All Star game plus a bunch of freebies.
