MANILA, Philippines - La Salle-Greenhills hopes to sustain its form as it goes for a wire-to-wire victory in the first NGAP Inter-Scholastics golf championship presented by the MVP Sports Foundation at Canlubang in Laguna beginning today.
With a 292 aggregate after the first two rounds two weekends ago, LSGH posted a three-stroke lead over Lyceum-Cavite and eight ahead of Beacon heading into the third round of the three-to-play, two-to-count event backed by Pancake House, Nike, Pacsports and Golf Depot.
LSGH banked on Inigo Raymundo and AR Ramos in Day 2 to take charge but Lawrence Celestino and Wolen Superal hope to come out strong and keep Lyceum within striking distance.
Basti Lorenzo and Gabriel Manotoc banner Beacon’s bid in the event which stakes P100,000 worth of athletic scholarship to the winner.
Beacon, behind Lorenzo’s 72 and Manotoc’s 74, shot the best second round score two Sundays ago, a 146, to stay in the hunt.
The event serves as part of the PLDT Group’s Amateur Tour with the organizing National Golf Association of the Philippines confident of drawing more schools next year.
De La Salle-College of St. Benilde got the first sub-par round of the tournament from Joseph Uy, a three-under-par 69 at the South layout, but lack of support has put the team 27 strokes off the pace.
