P.O. Domingo Cup slated at Wack Wack

The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines - The University of the East alumni will hold the second P. O. Domingo Cup Tournament, a lucky “Double 8” golf tournament, May 31 at the west course of the Wack-Wack Golf and Country Club. Tee-off is at 8 a.m.

Tournament organizers said the tournament, held in honor of the late UE Chairman and CEO Panfilo Obcena “P. O.” Domingo,  is set a day before his 88th birthday, hence a lucky “Double 8”.

The event also aims to raise funds for a scholarship program for financially disadvantaged students and for sports and cultural development.

Friends in the academe, banking and business sectors, media, and the UE alumni family, P.O.’s relatives and golf buddies are expected to support this one-day, fun-filled event with a cause. Interested parties are welcome to join the fun.

UE marketing department executive director Jesus Tanchanco Sr., former National Food Authority chief administrator, is event organizer assisted by Philippine Star’s business editor Roman Floresca and Business Mirror’s columnist Lito Gagni, both UE alumni.

“Dr. Tanchanco is relying on the lucky vibes of the Double 8, a lucky number in Chinese feng shui, in raising funds for the P.O. Domingo scholarships meant to benefit poor but deserving students whose only chance to better their lives and their families could be made by completing their studies,” said Gagni.

“P.O. believed in the value of education, which, during his stint at the PNB, drove him to ensure that PNB officials finish their MBA and PhD studies, with generous help from the bank.”
