Palawan Pawnshop age-grouper resumes Saturday

MANILA, Philippines - Action in the Palawan Pawnshop Regional age-group tournament resumes Saturday with Eric Jed Olivarez and Katrina Orteza leading the chase in the 18-and-under division at the Brookside Hills Tennis Club in Cainta, Rizal.

The five-day event ending April 3 serves as the seventh leg of the year-round, nationwide circuit put up by Palawan Pawnshop as part of its community service and at the same keep the youth busy this summer season.

Olivarez faces a slew of rivals in the premier class, including No. 2 Marcen Gonzales, third seed Lance Canizares, fourth ranked Kyle Joseph and the likes of Vernon Huivonhua, Jerome Romualdez, Jose Cano and Julian Dayrit while Orteza will be crowded by second seed Maia Balce, No. 3 Isabella Orteza and fourth ranked Andrea Amistad.

“We hope to produce new faces from our series of tournaments designed to discover talents who could be tapped and trained to become members of the national pool,” said Palawan Pawnshop COO Bobby Castro.

The circuit, sanctioned by Philta and supported by Babolat, held the first five stages in the Visayas with the sixth hosted by Parañaque last month. The eighth leg will be held April 5-9 at the Ouans Worth Farm Resort in Lucena City with free registration.

Also on tap in the upcoming event are the boys’ and girls’ 12-, 14-, 16-and-under classes and the 10-unisex category.
