Raymundo, Ramos pace Inter-school tilt

The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines - Iñigo Raymundo matched par 72 and AR Ramos carded a 75 as La Salle-Greenhills assembled a 147 to keep a three-stroke lead over Lyceum after two rounds of the NGAP Inter-Scholastics golf championship at the Canlubang Golf and Country Club last Sunday.

After failing to count in the first round, Raymundo bounced back with a gutsy round at Cangolf’s south layout to lead the LSGH team’s charge in the three-to-play, two-to-count format event. Luigi Guerrero didn’t count with a 78.

LSGH thus remained three shots ahead of Lyceum at 292 after the Intramuros-based squad also turned in a 147 for a 295 in the event presented by the MVP Sports Foundation.

Lawrence Celestino made a 73 while Wolen Superal slowed down with a 74 after a 69 for Lyceum, which discarded the 87 of Carlos Tinio III.

Basti Lorenzo rebounded from a horrendous opening day of 82 with a 72 as Beacon turned in the day-best 146 for 300 in the event which offers P100,000 to the winning school’s athletic program.

Gabriel Manotoc, who matched par 72 in the first round, had a 74 for Beacon.

De La Salle University stood at 304 after a 150 with Marvin Mendoza shooting a 74 and Gino Bunyi adding a 76.

Joseph Uy shot a 69, but got little support as De La Salle-College of St. Benilde could only manage a 159 for 319, 27 shots off the pace.

DLS-CSB had to count the 90 of Marvin Sy after RG Medestomas, who scored a first round 84 to count, made a 98.

The final two rounds will be held April 6-7 with a three-way fight looms among LSGH, Lyceum and Beacon.
