Three share UAAP top athlete award
MANILA, Philippines - The UAAP fetes its top performing student-athletes in Season 75 today in formal ceremonies with three sharing top honors at the SM City North Edsa Skydome.
University of Santo Tomas’ taekwondo jins Christian Al dela Cruz and Juan Miguel Ramos and Adamson’s softball star Michelle Lentija share the Athletes of the Year honor to lead the awardees in the rites set at 2 p.m.
Men’s taekwondo MVP dela Cruz led the Tigers to a record 11th diadem and later brought pride to the Philippines with a gold in the 16th Asean University Games in Laos.
For his part, juniors MVP Ramos spearheaded the Tiger Cubs to a fourth straight diadem and carried the country’s colors in the 7th Korea Open taekwondo championships in Gyeongju, South Korea.
Softball MVP, Most Home Run and Best Slugger awardee Lentija played an instrumental role in Adamson’s three-peat via a sweep and also keyed Team Manila’s championship run in the Big League Softball World Series in the US.
Newly minted general champion La Salle will also get their moment for topping the field after 28 events, breaking the 14-year rule of UST. The Thomasians will take the general championship in the juniors division.
