MANILA, Philippines - Centro Escolar University blasted Trinity University of Asia, 77-52, to claim the NCBL Founders’ Cup crown via a five-game sweep at the CEU gym last week.
The Scorpions used one big scoring run in the early going to wrest control, 19-8, then went on to post leads of as many as 31 points en route to victory.
“We had a good start but it was our defense that keyed our championship,†said CEU coach Egay Macaraya.
The Scorpions reserves combined for 42 points with Jayson Gatchalian leading the way with 12 markers.
Jayson Opiso had 10 points and six rebounds while Alvin Abundo added eight points, six boards, three assists and two steals for CEU.
Abundo went on to bag the MVP honors in the event backed by Spalding, Physio Asia Therapy Center and Athletes in Action.
Robin Cruz led the Stallions with 15 points, while Nicol Bolos chipped in 10 points and nine boards.
Technological University of the Philippines placed third, while Don Bosco Technological College wound up fourth.
