Online photo compounds Globalport import woes

MANILA, Philippines - Globalport may undertake an import change for the second time in less than two weeks after the management and coaching staff saw a photo in cyberspace showing Walter Sharpe apparently dead drunk and asleep on a parking lot somewhere in Pasig.

The management and coach Junel Baculi were to hold an emergency meeting last night to decide on the fate of Sharpe, who has just played two games in the PBA Commissioner’s Cup after taking over from Justin Williams.

“We lost two games with him as our import then we saw this picture of him which is now circulating in the Internet. This is not good for our team and the PBA in general,” said Baculi.

The Globalport has a standby import in case it decides to dismiss Sharpe.

High on their list is former Saigon Heat import Jonathan Jones.

Sharpe apparently had one drink too many after a poor  performance in their 85-93 loss to the Alaska Milk Aces last Sunday.

The former Detroit Piston got into early foul trouble and was able to play only 20 minutes, making two points and five rebounds.

“Actually, he did well in practice. I was surprised with the big turnaround in actual game,” said Baculi.

The Batang Pier went deeper down the cellar Sunday as they reeled with a conference-worst sixth straight loss and seventh in nine games in all.

Sharpe has been far from sharp. And he may get the pink slip sooner than expected.

“The picture was so bad. It’s not good for the image of the league,” said Baculi, referring to Sharpe’s photo on spin.ph showing him lying on a pavement fronting a row of bars in Pasig City.
