DHL Am Open offers national pool berths

The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines - Berths in the national pool will be up for grabs when the WWWExpress-DHL Amateur Open gets going Tuesday at the North course of the Canlubang golf complex in Laguna.

The National Golf Association of the Philippines will be keeping an eye on the top performers of the 72-hole event, held as part of the PLDT Group National Amateur Golf Tour, as it fills up the national pool for several international events this year.

Members of the Nomura and Putra Cup teams, the Southeast Asian Games squad and even the World Amateur team will all come from the pool that the NGAP will assemble in the coming weeks.

Rupert Zaragosa, the 16-year-old who once held the national men’s and junior’s titles on the same year, banners the cast as he tries to win the event for the first time.

A 54-hole women’s event will also be played and standouts from the highly successful ICTSI stable are expected to see action, led by Dottie Ardina, Jayvee Agojo and the young Princess Superal.

PAL Interclub revelation Keanu Jahns of Alabang, teammate Andres Saldana, and several stars of the Interclub from the south are also expected to vie in the event.

Several names stood out during the Interclub held in Cebu recently with Jahns, a 17-year-old half-German, shooting a total of seven-under-par 137 in two rounds at Cebu Country Club.
