Capati Cup gets going at Cangolf
MANILA, Philippines - The Dominga Capati Cup golf tournament gets going today with 19 teams clashing for top honors in the annual tournament at the South Course of Canlubang Golf Complex in Laguna.
Villamor, who beat Sta. Elena by six to capture last year’s crown at Cangolf’s North Course, heads the elite field in the six-player team Scramble format event held in honor of the country’s former top player.
Cangolf is fielding in three teams while Alabang, Aguinaldo, Sta. Elena, Villamor and Forest Hills have two squads, guaranteeing a slam-bang action in the 18-hole event organized by Women’s Golf Association of the Phils.
Tagaytay Highlands, which swept the recent WGAP Circuit and WGAP Cup, is also putting in two teams in the event.
Others vying in the tournament, which caps the WGAP season, are Manila Golf Club, Orchard, Riviera and Valley Golf Club.
Capati was the lone Filipina player in the 1938 Philippine Women’s Open Golf Championship where she dominated the international field and won by five strokes.
