Guce’s daughter rules Arizona invitational

The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines - Clariss Guce closed out with a two-over 74 to edge UC Riverside’s Amelia Ek and Weber State’s Kelsey Chugg by one stroke and capture the Red Rocks Invitational crown at Oakcreek Country Club last Sunday in Sedona, Arizona.

Guce, playing out of Cal State Northridge, came out of a four-way tie for second in the first round after a 72 but prevailed in tough condition in the final day, submitting a two-day total of 146 to match her season-low for 36 holes this season.

The daughter of former top Phl jockey Ramon, now a resident of California, also carded a 146 in finishing third at the Colby Classic last October.

Guce leads the Matadors with four Top 10 finishes this season.

It was also Cal State’s second straight individual crown after Margo Dionisio scored a breakthrough in the Lady Cougar Invitational in San Marcos last week.

The Matadors, however, settled for second in the team competition for the second straight week.

The Matadors wound up with a 609 from rounds of 303-306, four behind the winning 605 by Toledo, which assembled a 301 in the final round.

Guce and the Matadors resume their campaign on March 25-26 at the CSUB Invitational at Bakersfield Country Club in Bakersfield.
