MANILA, Philippines - The chase for berths in this year’s ICTSI Philippine Golf Tour begins March 5 with the staging of the Qualifying School at Splendido Taal Golf Club in Tagaytay with 30 slots up for grabs for the local players and 10 berths at stake for the foreign bets.
Registration is still open with deadline set tomorrow. Entry fee is pegged at P3,500 (local) and P7,000 (foreign). For details, contact PGT at 0915-7824751 or download application at pgt.ph.
After 36 holes, the field will be cut to the top 60, including foreign entries, with the top 30 and 10 foreign bets gaining cards for the upcoming 2013 season. A practice round is set on March 4.
All pros who failed to make the top 40 in last year’s ICTSI-PGT circuit are required to go through the Q-School. It is also open to amateurs with handicaps of two (maximum 2.4 index) under the USGA handicapping system.
A richer, bigger circuit has been lined up this year with a record 17 legs, starting with the ICTSI Sherwood Hills Classic on March 20-23 where Elmer Salvador is the defending back-to-back champion.
Five other four-day championships are on tap, including the ICTSI Wack Wack Championship, which will host the circuit’s final leg for the third straight season on Nov. 20-23.
The second leg will be held April 10-14 for the Solaire Open held in conjunction with the grand opening of the Solaire Manila Resort at Entertainment City.
A three-leg Mindanao swing is set from June 26-28 with ICTSI Rancho Palos Verdes Classic, the ICTSI Del Monte Championship on July 3-5 and the ICTSI Pueblo de Oro Championship on July 10-12.
