Ateneo netters bag inter-school crown

MANILA, Philippines - Ateneo swept its three singles matches with Xavier to capture the Inter-School Tennis Association (ISTA) Division 1 crown at the College of San Agustin Tennis Courts in Makati recently.

Junior Iyo Canlas pulled off a thrilling come-from-behind victory over Joel Atienza, 8-4, to seal Ateneo’s domination of last year’s champions Stallions.

Senior Ino Canlas set off Ateneo’s charge with an emphatic 8-1 romp over Enrique Ferrer while sophomore Marcen Gonzales toppled Vernon Huibonhua, 8-4.

The victory also capped the successful 2012-2013 campaign by the Ateneo High School lawn tennis team, handled by coach Gee Abacan, as it also ruled the PRADA Championship and completed a back-to-back title romp in the PAYA tournament.
