Suba, Cudala dominate class in Sorteo GP

The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines - Reigning Karter of the Year VJ Suba and Raymond Cudala dominated their respective divisions to lead the winners in the Sorteo Grand Prix 2013 Coca-Cola KF2-KF3 Cup Series at the Carmona Racetrack in Cavite recently.

Suba, of Eagle Cement, ruled the last three of four races in the KF2 division while the 13-year-old Cudala, of Tough Gear Racing, dished out an impressive debut with three wins in the KF3 class of the event sponsored by Coca-Cola Philippines and Yokohama.

Suba and former teammate and defending champion Milo Rivera slugged it out in the KF2 division with the latter squeaking past the former by just 0.110 of a second at the finish line in Race 1.

Estefano Rivera of Tough Gear Racing wound up third and Daniel Miranda of Cebuana Lhuillier and CJ Tsui of Formula E Racing ended up fourth and fifth, respectively.

Cudala, meanwhile, flashed top form as he outraced last year’s Formula SL Expert champion Jaz Monzones, now with Formula-E Racing, to press his bid for the Junior Karter of the Year award, showing excellent skills, winning the first three races.

But Monzones struck back in Race 4, grabbing the lead and foiling Cudala’s four-race sweep bid.

But Suba bounced back strong, thwarting brothers Milo and Estefano Rivera in Race 2 and re-asserting his supremacy over Milo Rivera and Miranda in Race 3.

Milo Rivera, however, suffered engine trouble on the 10th lap although Miranda, a first timer in the KF2 class, took up the challenge and pressed Suba, almost wresting the front seat.

But like Rivera, Miranda blew up his engine with a lap to go, enabling Suba to romp to his third straight triumph.
