Global blasts struggling Archers, gains solo lead in UFL

Alder Almo - The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines – Defending champion Global remained on top of the United Football League table after blasting the Green Archers United-Globe, 5-1, Tuesday at the Emperador Stadium in McKinley Hill, Taguig.

For the second straight match, team manager Dan Palami took over the coaching chores as Global’s Scottish coach Brian Reid was still back home attending to a previous commitment.

Palami liked what he saw as Global, which vaulted to solo lead with its third straight win, fired two quick goals in the first 15 minutes.

Azkal Carli de Murga opened Global’s scoring act off an Izzo Elhabib assist 11 minutes into the match. It was Elhabib’s turn four minutes later to give Global a commanding 2-nil lead at the break.

Tating Pasilan pulled one back for the struggling Archers, who fell to the bottom of the standings with their third consecutive loss despite acquiring prized recruits Chieffy Caligdong and Jovanie Simpron in the off-season.

Global’s fluid offense was in full display in the second half with three more goals after the Archers’ lone scoring act.

Elhabib completed a brace from a Ben Starosta pass in the 56th minute while Patrick Reichelt connected on a Jeffrey Christiaens assist five minutes later.  Marvin Angeles capped off Global’s scoring parade in the 84th minute.

In the second match, Kaya fell down to third after settling to a scoreless draw with Nomads.
