San Juan wins final race, rules PTCC Division 2
MANILA, Philippines - Tuason Racing School bet Leo San Juan copped the crucial victory in the final race that sealed his title recently in the championship leg of the Philippine Touring Car Championships at the Batangas Racing Circuit.
A surprise turn of events decided his fate as this year’s Division 2 champion, narrowly winning the crown over Jeff Borja by just a one-point edge to keep up with the championship tradition of Tuason Racing School.
He was supported by Nissan Commenwealth, The Sunny Motors Group, Ziebart, Hi-Quality Brands, Excellar, TitanWorks and TRS Racing Team partners BMW, OMP, Coke Zero, Standard Insurance, C!Magazine, Toptul, Elig Brake Pads, Go Pro and Oakley.
It was almost a busted bid for San Juan, who saw his nine-point margin diminish as he ended third in Race 10 and took the runner-up finish in Race 11 while Borja ruled both races to wrest the overall lead with a four-point advantage, 170-166.
However, the scenario quickly changed as the big twist spoiled Borja’s hope for another three-race sweep and, eventually, his title bid.
A revitalized San Juan showed he could keep abreast with Borja in Race 12, and swapped places for the front seat twice in the opening race laps. Borja defended as much as he could but could not keep the hard-charging San Juan behind.
