Tan, San Juan pull off close wins

MANILA, Philippines - William Tan ruled the premiere Division 1 crown and went on to bag the Driver of the Year honors while Leo San Juan took the Division 2 title in the Philippine Touring Car Championship Series at the Batangas Racing Circuit in Rosario, Batangas recently.

Tan, of 2GO Travel-Promethium Racing, struggled but turned in podium finishes in the last three races – second in Races 10 and 12 and third in Race 11 – to wrap up the Division I (for 200hp cars) crown with 164 points. He also took the Automobile Association Philippines (AAP) Driver of the Year plum.

San Juan, of TRS-Nissan Commonwealth Racing Team, finished with 186 points to post a one-point victory over Jeff Borja of Seaoil-Darkside Racing Team in Division 2 (for 150hp cars) of the event organized by the AAP and promoted by the Philippine Race Car Drivers Inc. PRCDI and co-presented by Kumho Tires and Tiarra Marketing, Seaoil Extreme 97, 2GO Travel, Speedlab, Forex, Promethium, Velocity Motors, Aeromed Ambulance Transport and Monster Energy Drink.

Sharing the limelight was Circuit Showdown and Novice driver Alan Arguelles who bagged the Division 3 overall honors (for 100hp cars). He wound up with 125 points, 30 points ahead of Paul Aris Anguluan of Shift Racing Team with 95 points. Dominic Uy of Mighty Sports-Velocity Racing Team placed third.

“The 2012-2013 PTCC Series was a complete success after modification of the Technical Regulations and with the full support of all partners and sponsors. We also would like to congratulate all winners and drivers for a safe, fun and competitive racing season,” said Mark Desales of AAP Motorsports.

Circuit Showdown’s Enzo Pastor, meanwhile, swept all three races and finished third place overall with 134 points, just three points off 2010 Driver of the Year Joey Pery of Forex Racing Team who ended up second overall with 137 points.
