De La Salle Zobel holds successful Bro. Ceci Cup

MANILA, Philippines - De La Salle Zobel kicked off 2013 with a bang by successfully hosting its first sports festival, the Brother Ceci Cup, at the DLSZ campus in Ayala Alabang, Muntinlupa. In four days of action, over 150 teams coming from different schools and clubs from all over Luzon competed in football, tennis, basketball, taekwondo, volleyball and baseball.

In football, ABC Stars of Naga won the 9 and under Boys category, Makati Football Club dominated the 13 and under Boys category, and La Salle Greenhills won in the Men’s Open category after edging Dolphins FC in a thrilling match in the finals. The DLSZ Girls Team A and B finished first and second place respectively in the Women’s Open Category.

DLSZ won over Manresa in the finals to win the championship in the 12 and under Boys basketball tournament. Chevron Ateneo won the title in the Women’s Open Category.

De La Salle Lipa Team A won the championship in High School Volleyball. In Taekwondo, DLSZ won the Kyorugi Over-all Champion Award after winning 11 gold, 10 silver, and 16 bronze medals. Team RKC came in second winning 11 golds, 5 silvers and 3 bronze medals.

According to Mike Atayde, President of the DLSZ Sports Development Foundation, “We are very excited with the turn-out of participants in this tournament. We wanted to showcase the best talents, as well as provide an opportunity for young players, to play in an environment where they can have fun and at the same time hone their skills in their sport.” He also added, “Our football teams in the tournament were also the first to make use of the newly inaugurated FIFA-spec artificial turf football field. It is the first of its kind south of Manila and we would like to thank DLSZ President Bro. Dennis Magbanua FSC, Green Archers United FC and Globe Telecom for making this possible. Even now, we expect next year’s sport festival to be well attended so we invite all teams to book early and reserve a slot.”

The Bro. Ceci Cup is supported by Toyota,  Shakeys, Coke, Orich Juices, Pascual Laboratory, Wendy’s, Cris Sport, Smokey’s and Krispy Kreme.
