MANILA, Philippines - Perpetual Help opens its bid for a sweep of both the men’s and women’s NCAA volleyball titles as it clashes with Emilio Aguinaldo and San Sebastian, respectively, in today’s Game One of the best-of-three finals at The Arena in San Juan City.
The Altas, on an amazing 31-game run since 2011, are shooting for a third straight men’s championship against the Generals starting at 4 p.m.
The Lady Altas, on the other hand, go for back-to-back title romp against the same Lady Stags side out to reclaim the crown it won three years ago.
Gametime is at 6 p.m.
In juniors’ action, EAC and San Sebastian start their own best-of-three title showdown at 1 p.m.
The Lady Altas are fancied over the Lady Stags, whom the former beat four straight times, including two last year, although Perpetual Help coach Jason Sapin remains wary of their rivals.
“Forget about what happened in the past, it’s a fairly equal match because anything can happen in the finals,†said Sapin in Filipino.
Perpetual foiled EAC, 15-25, 25-17, 25-21, 20-25, 15-9, to clinch the finals berth last Thursday.
Focus will be on SSC rookie Gretchel Soltones, who normed an impressive 26.7 hits in the semis.
“We have to find ways to stop her (Soltones),†said Sapin.
