Patriots give DLSU second volley title

The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines - De La Salle-Dasmariñas showed enough spunk and composure in the final set to turn back Rizal Technological University, 25-23, 26-28, 25-19, 25-18, and regain the National Capital Regional Athletic Association (NCRAA) men’s volleyball crown at the Animo Center court of the DLSU Health Science Institute campus in Dasmariñas, Cavite last Tuesday.

The Patriots banked on MVP Al-Nakran Abdillah and Hudri Kona in the last two frames as they completed a sweep of their best-of-three series.

Abdillah’s kill and service winner shattered a 13-all count in the fourth set and his crucial plays capped the Patriots’ 5-0 run for an 18-13 lead.

A couple of smashes by Kona set off a 4-1 spurt and the Patriots were never in trouble as they established a 22-14 lead in the event supported by Mikasa and Molten Balls.

La Salle-Dasma’s win came on the heels of the Lady Patriots victory over the PSBA Lady Jaguars, 25-19, 25-9, 25-23.

Last year’s winner Philippine Merchant Marine School beat Olivarez College, 26-24, 26-24, 23-25, 25-17, to clinch third place honors in the men’s side.
