Watanabe-Serrano rules Yulo Memorial golf

MANILA, Philippines - Isamu Watanabe and partner Arnold Serrano assembled a two-day output of 90 and 88 over the weekend to win the 35th playing of the Yulo Memorial Tournament by 12 points over a Japanese pair at Canlubang Golf’s North and South courses.

Toshikatsu Oka-Yuji Tokunaga finished second with a 166 tally after a 78 and 88 with Dante Ong-Arsenio Yap winding up in third spot another four points behind with 80-82 in the event presented by Mitsubishi Motors, Diamond Motors, Club Car Philippines, The Turf Co., Yamaha Golf Cart, Pacsports and Air Asia.

National team player Rupert Zaragosa won the low gross title pulling away from Mari Hechanova, shooting a 69 and 68 for 137 and beating the veteran senior campaigner by a whopping eight shots.

Hechanova, though, won the team low gross event together with Southwoods standout Jun Jun Plana by assembling a 143-146 for 289 over two of the toughest courses in the land.

Other backers of the 36-hole event were Mizuno, Ayala Land Premier, Shell Philippines, ABW Whealth Inc., Rudy Project, Peter Paul Philippines, Oakley, Golfworx and media partners the Philippine Daily Inquirer and The Philippine Star.
