Eagles seek to firm up lead in UAAP football

MANILA, Philippines - Ateneo seeks to keep its unbeaten run and firm its hold of the lead when it faces winless University of the East in the UAAP men’s football tournament at the Erenchun field inside the Ateneo campus today.

Game time is 3 p.m. The Blue Booters revved up by their upset of reigning champions the UP Maroons Sunday followed by a scoreless draw with the UST Tigers.

Ateneo has 20 points on six wins and two draws.

â€œWe’re only two points ahead of FEU and La Salle, so we need to work harder to stay in the lead,” said Ateneo mentor JP Merida.

FEU will try to bounce back from a Wednesday loss against La Salle when it takes on National U (with 2-6-1 win-loss-draw card for seven points) at 1 p.m. FEU (6-2) and La Salle (6-3) are tied at second with 18 points apiece.

UP (4-3-1/13 points) and UST (3-5-1/10 points) collide in the opening game at 9 a.m.

In women’s play, UST (2-2-2) meets winless UP (0-4-1) at 1 p.m., followed by 3 p.m. game between league-leading Ateneo and FEU.
