MANILA, Philippines - Basketball fans can catch the action in the 27th Fiba-Asia Championship in their living rooms or other viewing areas through the meet’s official broadcaster, Solar Entertainment Corporation.
In a statement, Solar said it is “delighted in being able to promote the development of Philippine basketball by providing the Filipino audience with the best coverage that they deserve.â€
The Fiba-Asia tilt will be held from Aug. 1-11 featuring the Continent’s top basketball nations vying for slots to the 2014 Fiba World Cup in Spain.
Solar holds the right to broadcast Fiba events and tournaments until Dec. 31, 2015.
According to Solar COO Peter Chanliong, Solar is currently talking to TV networks to see who among them will be the best choice to be the free TV partner.
“We’re looking forward to the games. We hope to make announcements in the weeks to come,†said Chanliong, whose company is also set to meet with officials of Fiba-Asia and Samahang Basketbol ng Pilipinas on Monday to discuss the technical and production side of the games.
The Phl will host the prestigious meet for the first time in 40 years.
“Much work lies ahead in organizing this event, but we will do our best to make it successful. It’s time to unite Philippine basketball to achieve our goal of entering the World Championship in Spain in 2014,†said SBP president Manuel V. Pangilinan.
